Sari Bistari has been a local favourite for at least 30 years. Probably even more! This spot is not as well known as other Ayam Penyet restaurants, but has not slowed down in terms of customers! It is a local favourite. If you are looking for an authentic Singaporean hawker experience, this place is the perfect spot! The people manning the stall are welcoming, despite being swamped with customers. Overall, a great food experience!

They start prepping their dish bright and early. Despite only serving one dish, preparation is still a process. Their chicken, for example, needs to be marinated overnight in a thin flour batter. It is seasoned with its blend of spices and a generous amount of Tumeric! That is a key ingredient that gives the chicken its golden colour! Their rice is also amazing. They use Jasmine rice that is lightly seasoned when cooking. They have mastered this dish.

Their Ayam Penyet ($7.00) is the only dish they serve for good reason! Every part of this dish is perfect. From the rice to the chicken- even the salad! Firstly, the rice. It is nicely separated and lightly seasoned and topped with fried shallots. The perfect side to eat is their amazing fried chicken! The chicken itself is otherworldly. The skin is ridiculously crispy. The meat is tender, juicy and full of flavour from the marinade. Outstanding- plain and simple.

The best part of this dish, however, is the sambal.’Packs a punch’ is an understatement. It is deviously dark in colour, giving it a slightly menacing quality. But the flavour is unbelievable! We suggest a tiny drop of the sambal for each spoonful as it is quite powerful and very spicy! You’d want to get a cold drink with this.
