Mr Lim Khai Ngee has been running Lau Hong Ser Rojak for the last 48 years and continues to serve one of the best rojak in Singapore to this day! He first started helping out his father at the stall in secondary school and now manages it, with his family helping him out occasionally.

His prawn paste, the foundation of every good rojak sauce, is sourced from Penang and he even grinds and fries his own peanuts. Not only that, he char-grills the youtiao and tau pok on order and even his chilli paste is home-made. This tremendous amount of dedication results in an irresistible plate of rojak that customers can’t get enough of.

What’s unique about Lau Hong is that they offer you two different sets to choose from.

Here are the two sets offered:

Set A ($3 to $6): Youtiao, Tau Pok, Bean Sprouts, Turnip, Pineapple, and Cucumber.

Set B ($5.60): Youtiao, Taupok Pau (Bean Sprouts encased in Taupok), Cuttlefish, and Century Egg.

Rest assured that both sets come with their signature prawn paste sauce. Set A is your typical traditional rojak, while Set B is more of the ngoh-hiang style where the sauce comes separately so you can dip your ingredients into it till your heart’s content. As the cheapest set goes for only $3, it is definitely a huge plus point.

The classic rojak is served with a generous amount of peanuts and each ingredient is coated beautifully with the amazing prawn paste. The sauce is deliciously rich and has the perfect amount of sweetness to it. Every bite has a heavenly burst of umami flavour which is then further elevated by the flavours and textures of the ingredients. As the youtiao and tau pok are grilled, they are crisp to perfection and the slight char adds an additional layer of smokiness that pairs perfectly with the sauce.
