Jie Ji Boneless Braised Duck has been around for several years and is a one-man show stall. Serving up three main dishes – Duck Noodles ($3.50), Duck Porridge ($3.50), and Braised Duck Rice ($3.50), his duck rice continues to be the most popular item to this day. Offering $3.50 and $4 versions for the Braised Duck Rice, it is highly recommended to top up the extra $0.50 for added ingredients like tau kwa, braised peanuts, and half a boiled egg which is incredibly value-for-money!

Starting with the rice, it is already really flavourful on its own and has a nice hint of pepper. A generous amount of sauce is doused over it, giving each bite a beautiful balance of sweet and savoury.

Unfortunately, the duck is a tad dry and chewy and could use a little more flavour as well. The chilli does however help to elevate the flavours, adding layers of spice, sweetness and sharpness.

As for the braised peanuts, they are cooked well and have a pleasantly soft and chewy texture. What’s impressive is the tau kau as it is soft, yet it doesn’t disintegrate immediately as you bite into it which allows you to enjoy its texture. Additionally, the soup is light and has an amazing herbal and braised peanut taste to it, something you don’t usually taste from other stalls.
