Well, lucky for you, nestled away at Beauty World Food Centre lies Hong Wen Mutton Soup, one of the hidden gems that all you mutton soup lovers should definitely check out!
Hong Wen Mutton Soup At Beauty World
Hong Wen Mutton Soup was first opened by Mr Tan’s father at the now-demolished Seventh Mile Market over 50 years ago. The stall now has two outlets, with the other at Bukit Timah Food Centre that’s currently run by Mr Tan’s elder brother.
Unlike the typical Hainanese version, Hong Wen serves up Teochew-style mutton soup instead, with four different varieties to choose from, depending on your cut of mutton. Although the stall usually doesn’t have long queues, they continue to have a loyal following of customers, drawing them from all over Singapore.
The Mutton Soup ($8) is incredibly robust and has an amazing depth of flavour. It is one of the cleanest-tasting mutton soups you’ll find, ensuring you don’t have to worry about any gaminess. Rest assured, there’s still a pleasant amount of flavour from the mutton.
There is a slight herbal taste to it and the sweetness from the goji berries gives a beautiful balance of flavours. Additionally, ginger strips and garlic are also added to help rid of the mutton smell. You can even taste some of the garlic in the soup. Each sip is incredibly comforting and delicious, making you crave for the next one immediately!
The mutton is seriously tender and has a good amount of flavour without any gaminess. Be sure to pair it with the chilli for a delightful burst of spice and tang and to help cut through the gamey taste as well. It is definitely one of the best Chinese-style mutton soups in Singapore, making Hong Wen Mutton Soup a must-try spot!
