Fun fact, even though the stall’s name is Ivy’s, the owner is actually a man named Max Ng. An interesting story of how the stall was set up, Max was trying to woo Ivy back then and cooked mutton soup to win her heart. Looks like you can win a woman’s heart through her stomach as well.

Long story short, they got married and Max opened Ivy’s Hainanese Herbal Mutton Soup in 2000. Not only does the stall have a beautiful backstory, but they also serve an amazing Herbal Mutton Soup. The stall has achieved the Michelin Plate status, in recognition of their scrumptious dish.

Despite that the smallest portion of Herbal Mutton Soup is served at $14, the stall continues to draw snaking long queues daily. The mutton is marinated with fermented red yeast every morning and seared in oil to rid it of its gamey taste.

The meat is then stewed for hours with more than 20 kinds of herbs. The result is extremely tender and flavourful ribs that’ll make you salivate at the sheer sight of it. For an extra depth of flavour, dip the ribs into the homemade chilli paste for an extra kick of spice and tang.

The dish is served in a claypot, ensuring the soup remains warm right till your very last sip. Besides ribs, the dish also comes with tau pok, black fungus, and wolfberries. The soup is thick and has a pleasant herbal flavour to it.
