Heng Kee Lor Mee has been operating at Bendemeer Market & Food Centre for more than 42 years. The popular stall is currently run by a pair of siblings who took over from their mother after she passed on. It’s truly inspiring to see them putting in the hard work to carry on their mother’s legacy! Their preparation begins at around 3am daily, prepping all the ingredients for their tasty Lor Mee. They open as early as 5am and they are usually sold out before noon. Truly a testament to their hard work!

Heng Kee’s Lor Mee ($3) comes with beansprouts, braised pork belly, fried wanton, half a boiled egg and some crispy fried pork belly. Heng Kee doesn’t serve their Lor Mee with ngoh hiang like most stalls but trust us, you won’t be complaining! Additionally, the gravy coats the noodles well, giving every strand full of flavour.

The fried pork belly is truly the star of this dish. It is basically the savoury braised pork belly fried to golden perfection. The fatty layers are the perfect contrast to the crunchiness of the crispy pork. Although not the most crispy, the crunchy texture of the pork still complements the noodles perfectly.  After being soaked in gravy, the fried pork belly has a texture similar to sweet and sour pork. Do eat them fast for ultimate crispiness!
