Tok Gong Lor Mee Stall At Old Airport Road
When it comes to the best Lor Mee at Old Airport Road hor, the competition is damn fierce between Xiang Ji and Xin Mei Xiang. As the queues were longer at Xiang Ji when we went down, we decided to review them instead. However, we not saying Xin Mei Xiang’s lor mee not nice ok.
Despite serving Zha Jiang Mian ($4) as well, it is confirm Xiang Ji’s Lor Mee that draws the crowds to their stall. Xiang Ji offers their Lor Mee at three affordable price points – $3 (no fish), $4 (got fish), $5 (even more fish)
The zaap, or gravy, of the Lor Mee ($4) absolutely slaps. It is super gao (thick) and flavourful, with a prominent kick of five-spice powder shining through. Shiok sia! Some more ah, the added vinegar gives a delightful sharpness that helps to lift the flavours, while the chilli padi gives some heat to the dish.
The sauce coats each strand of noodles, giving each slurp an incredible burst of flavour. Take note hor, you can say you don’t want the garlic, vinegar, and chilli to be added.
We recommend getting the $4 portion as the fish adds a pleasant umami and bite to the dish. The pork belly slices are tender but the ngoh hiang is sadly pretty meh. Another plus point however is the generous portion of ingredients, making it still a really tasty dish overall lah.
