Mr Tan’s eldest son, Mr Tan Hock Yong, told The Straits Times at the wake that his father died of a sudden heart attack. It was also mentioned that his father had been feeling unwell since the Chinese New Year weekend, suffering from a lack of appetite and a bloated stomach.
Mr Tan Kue Kim also leaves behind his wife and four grandchildren. He learned how to fry Hokkien mee in the 1960s under the tutelage of his elder cousin. Regarding who will take over the business, it was revealed that the search was ultimately unsuccessful because of Mr Tan’s strict terms.
