MUST-TRY: Best Local Eats at East Coast Lagoon Food Village, S’pore!

Wine & Dine by the Sea At East Coast Park!

The East is a wonderful treasure trove of amazing food spots, with good food in every neighbourhood. Of the many food stalls and hawker centres, Lagoon Food Village is one of the most popular spots among Easties to get some of the best local food in Singapore! Located in East Coast Park, it’s a great place to stuff yourselves after a day of fun and games at the beach!

1. Song Kee Fried Oyster

Oyster omelette, or orh luak, is a common dish often found in Singapore hawker centres. Even then, Song Kee Fried Oyster stands out from the rest with their exceptionally crispy and fluffy orh luak. We love it because it’s not too oily, and carries the perfect balance of egg, starch and oysters. Not to mention, their oysters are fresh, and go well with the salty air of the seaside at East Coast Park!

Going to the beach will definitely have you craving seafood! With the abundance of different seafood stalls in East Coast Lagoon, it may be hard to settle with just one. However, BBQ Seafood Kitchen is one of the local favourites, with their own group of regulars that swear by their food! They use fresh seafood and expertly make their food to-order, and customers swear by the amazing flavour of their dishes!

Famous for their irresistible Hokkien Mee, Choon Hiang is an absolute classic at Lagoon Food Village! The stall has been around for 40 years, and is currently run by a second-generation hawker – the original owner’s daughter. Despite the handover, the quality of the food has not been compromised, and they still produce some of the best Hokkien Mee in the country.

Be assured that every bite will have that wonderful wok hei paired with the springy mix of bee hoon and yellow noodles. The dish isn’t overly wet, yet it still carries strong, rich prawn and pork flavours that are well-absorbed into the noodles. Pair it with the delicious home-made sambal for the most wonderful, savoury combination ever!

If you’ve been to Lagoon Food Village before, you’d know that there are MANY satay stalls there. However, frequent customers know Haron Satay serves the best of the best! With choices between chicken, beef and mutton, each stick is barbecued over an authentic charcoal grill, leaving the meat wonderfully juicy and well-charred. The satay has a nice smoky flavour, and pairs exceptionally well with their special home-made peanut sauce.

5. Han Jia Bak Kut Teh & Pork Leg

Braised Pig Trotters are a fairly hard-to-find delicacy, but Han Jia Bak Kut Teh is the absolute master of the dish. The pieces of trotter are huge, and strike a good balance between meaty and fatty as they soak up the tasty braising liquid after hours of simmering. The sticky sauce is a good mix of savoury and sweet, and coats the trotters well to ensure every bite is as flavourful as the last! We recommend ordering half fatty and half lean meat to enjoy both the soft fats and fall-off-the-bone tender meat!

The stall also serves some good Bak Kut Teh, the peppery soup striking a nice contrast to the strong flavours of the pig trotters. Order both the Bak Kut Teh and the Braised Pig Trotters to enjoy an amazing, heartwarming meal!

6. Lagoon Leng Kee Beef Kway Teow

This famous stall from East Coast Lagoon needs no introduction – Lagoon Leng Kee Beef Kway Teow is one of the long-time favourites for a soothing, rich bowl of beef noodles. The flavourful soup is well absorbed by the strands of flat rice noodles, and is well accompanied by just-cooked slices of beef. For their cuts of brisket, tendon and tripe, they are only sliced upon order, which keeps the meat moist and tasty. We advise going early to avoid the long queues!

With their other outlet located at the famous Changi Village Hawker Centre, Ah Hwee BBQ Chicken is undoubtedly one of the best in the game. Their marinated chicken wings are barbecued over a blazing charcoal fire, leaving the skin beautifully crispy and oily while the meat is moist and tender. They are served straight out of the fire and make a perfect accompaniment to other sinfully greasy local delights. Pair it with a squeeze of lime and the delicious chilli sauce to boost the flavour even more!

8. Cheok Kee Duck Rice

As one of the famous must-haves at Lagoon Food Village, Cheok Kee Duck Rice has made a name for themselves for their fragrant yam rice and well-braised duck. Their signature gravy stands out from the rest, with light savoury and herbal notes ensuring against an overpowering, jelak flavour. Additionally, their sambal chilli is oily and of a satisfying spice level, and adds a nice additional touch of saltiness to the dish! Sporting a constantly long queue, it may not be easy to get your hands on a plate, but the wait is definitely worth it!
