Bukit Timah Railway Station Reopens With New Train-Themed Cafe, Heritage Gallery And A Gorgeous Garden!

On July 1, the URA and the National Parks Board (NParks) announced the opening of the Bukit Timah Railway Station community node. Desmond Lee, Minister of National Development, officiated at the opening ceremony. Mr Vijayaragavan was the station master at Bukit Timah Railway Station from 1979 to 1983. The host was Mr Lee himself! Enjoy the relaxing garden and beautiful cafe this week!

Bukit Timah Railway Station Reopens

The Bukit Timah Railway Station and the Railway Staff Quarters, where Mr Vijayaragavan lives with his family during his tenure, have both been restored and refurbished to preserve the heritage of the old station while also providing the public with a new place to hang out.

Heritage Gallery Refurbished

The Bukit Timah Railway Station’s change into a heritage gallery on one side of the tracks is unsurprising. It’s complete with train operation equipment such as track switching levers and a signals diagram replica. Visitors can relive the building’s history by taking part in the different activities!

New Train-Themed Cafe Opens

Across from the old station is the Railway Staff Quarters, which also has seen improvements with amenities such as air conditioning to house a new cafe. Also, where its antique decor promises a hint of rustic vibes along with your coffee. Although, you might find yourself more engrossed with the train piece at the ticket counter instead!

Beautiful And Relaxing Garden

A kampung garden and a herb and spice garden are also part of the new compound. Also, to replicate the greenery of kampungs from the past, the kampung garden has plants such as Bunga Raya (Hibiscus rosa-Sinensis), Peacock flower (Caesalpinia pulcherrima), Arabian jasmine (Jasminum sambac ‘Arabian Nights’). Also, plants commonly found in local home cooking, such as Siamese Ginger (Zingiber officinale), Laksa Leaf (Persicaria odorata), and Chilli Padi, are seen in the herb and spice garden (Capsicum frutescens).

This location is historically important to our history as Singaporeans! Also, aside from the two restored buildings, the Station compound includes open areas designed as event and communal spaces. This is the perfect spot to just enjoy the vibes! Head down today!
