Hass Bawa has been open since 1978. The late Mr Abdul Latiff Mohammed Kassim started selling Mee Goreng that, to this day, is beloved by the locals and is held as one of the best Mee Goreng in Singapore. Another fact about Hass Bawa is that they were nominated in the Singapore Hawker Masters contest back in 2014. Not only have they won the hearts of the people, but they are also certifiably one of the greats.

At Hass Bawa, they prepare their main sauce which can be found in their Mee Goreng bright and early. While their recipe remains a secret, we could guess that it has chilli sauce, sambal and curry powder. The sauce is then fried in a wok, giving it a smoky flavour. With a sauce so simple, it makes you wonder what gives it such complex flavours.

Their classic Mee Goreng ($5) is made rather simply. The best part of this dish is truly how traditional it is! They start with the sauce, when it is properly heated and allowed to bloom, they will then add their yellow noodles. The noodles themselves are soft with the right amount of chew. They then add mutton chunks, wok-fried eggs, some veggies, roasted tomatoes and lastly sliced cucumbers topped with chilli sauce.

The dish overall is surprisingly mild despite its vibrant colour. It is perfectly balanced and the ingredients compliment the dish amazingly. The noodles themselves are chewy and perfectly al dente. Overall, the taste is decently spicy, delicately sweet and savoury. You canalso customize it to your liking. Also, you can request for Mee Goreng “Basah”, which means the noodles will be saucier. You could also add a nice fried egg!
