This Famous Shop At Punggol Serves The Crispiest And Most Awesome Oyster Cakes!

In Singapore, oyster cakes are usually found only in pasar malams and a few hawker stalls like Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake and Fu Zhou Poh Hwa at Jalan Besar.  Sadly, there aren’t any stalls located on the north-eastern side of Singapore… until now! Nestled away at Northshore Plaza I in Punggol lies Sixth Floor Oyster Cake. Drawing snaking long queues for their tasty oyster cakes, this is definitely a must-try spot!

Sixth Floor Oyster Cake is currently owned by Khung Wai Yeen and his next-door neighbour and business partner Calvin Lau. What’s the story behind their stall name? Well, it turns out that Wai Yeen’s sixth-floor apartment in Punggol was actually where he started experimenting with cooking oyster cakes. As he had plenty of leftovers, his wife suggested selling them to their neighbours and everyone loved them.

The home-based business started to boom, making Wai Yeen decide to leave his full-time job and focus on the oyster cake business. As there was an opportunity to open a takeaway kiosk at Northshore Plaza I, he decided to take a leap of faith and opened Sixth Floor Oyster Cake with Calvin in October 2021.

Scrumptious Oyster Cakes!

Something interesting about the stall’s oyster cakes is that they are taller and narrower than your usual ones. Additionally, the batter is a secret recipe, consisting of three types of flour. The result is a dough with the most amazing crunch, with it also being more substantial than most oyster cakes out there. For added flavour, it’s seasoned with salt and chicken seasoning powder.

Each Original Oyster Cake ($3.50) is packed generously with huge juicy oysters, minced pork, a whole shrimp, and chives, ensuring you aren’t just eating plain batter. Each bite is perfectly well-balanced, with the ingredients complementing the batter beautifully. Not only that, but the peanuts sprinkled on top add a super satisfying crunch to the oyster cake.

Instead of the typical tangy and vinegary chilli most oyster cakes stalls serve, Sixth Floor Oyster Cake serves a unique ‘chicken rice chilli’ instead. They adopted the recipe that was given to them by a customer back when they were still a home-based business. Pairing it with the oyster cakes, enjoy a gingery and garlicky blend that delivers a good kick of spice as well. It’s definitely something unusual, but nonetheless still delicious!

Hurry Try Sixth Floor Oyster Cake Today!

Besides their original oyster cake, the shop also serves up a Kimchi Oyster Cake ($3.50) that is pretty popular as well. As mentioned before, Sixth Floor Oyster Cake is a takeaway shop, meaning dining in is not available. Hurry down and try this scrumptious oyster cake for yourself today!
