Authentic Pisang Keju At Changi Road

Pisang Keju Batam SG is a family-run business managed by Nurleli, her husband, Yusof, and her stepdaughter and son-in-law, Farhanah and Ismail. Back in Batam, Nurleli actually used to run three famous pisang keju street carts. When she moved to Singapore six years ago, she wanted to set up her own shop. However, due to financial issues, she settled for a home-based business first.

The popularity of Nurleli’s pisang keju grew over time and they soon opened their first stall at a Guillemard Road coffeeshop last year in February. Unfortunately, they were forced to relocate just after 11 days due to lease issues. Thankfully, they found a space and reopened their stall again at Changi Road.

Nurleli uses the same recipe as her Batam version, ensuring the authenticity of her pisang keju. Even the cheddar cheese and chocolate sauce are imported from Indonesia. The banana used, however, is different from the usual as it is not available in Singapore and Malaysia.
As Nurleli slices the bananas before coating and deep-frying them, her pisang keju are much crispier and lighter as compared to your usual Malay-style goreng pisang. Additionally, a thin batter is used,  allowing you to enjoy the natural sweetness of the bananas.

Unique And Scrumptious Flavours!

Although this is their original flavour, it certainly is the most unique. The Original ($5) comes with a tasty kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) and chilli dip that pack a serious punch. Adding a pleasant savouriness, the dip balances out the sweetness of the banana perfectly while masking the slight sourness.

Tasting more like a savoury dish, it’s definitely a good option for those who aren’t really sweet tooths. However, this is the perfect dish for all you adventurous foodies to try out!

For the Chocolate ($6), the banana fritters are drizzled with a generous amount of condensed milk, chocolate sauce, and chocolate rice sprinkles. With the dish being pretty heavy on the chocolate, it is recommended to share this as it gets jelak pretty fast.

The overall sweetness of the dish is complemented by the sourness of the banana, giving a good blend of flavours in each bite. Unfortunately, if you’re not a chocolate lover, this dish might not appeal to you as the flavours are pretty one-dimensional.

Last but not least is the OG pisang keju, the Classic ($7). If you enjoy sweet-savoury combinations, this is the dish for you. These tasty fritters are also topped with condensed milk, chocolate sauce, and a mountain of cheese. The combination of chocolate and cheese gives a good balance of sweet and savoury, with the sourness of the banana coming though at the end.

The sourness adds a refreshing element to the dish, making it less heavy on the palate. Additionally, the cheese adds a pleasant chewy texture to the crispy fritters. A sweet-savoury dessert that’s certainly worth a try!
