The essential difference between Penang Prawn Mee from Singapore’s version is that the soup base is spicy. Perfect for those who enjoy a little kick to their soups. The other difference is that there is not too much focus on having big prawns for the Penang version. However, other toppings are added instead such as fish cake and sliced pork.
A pretty decent variety of ingredients as compared to Singapore’s version where it’s usually just the noodles. Additionally, if you’ve noticed, Penang Prawn Mee usually comes in the soup version, whereas the Singapore version offers you both the dry and soup options.

The Penang Prawn Mee ($5) is served with al dente noodles, with an array of ingredients including kangkong, prawns, sliced pork, fish cake, and topped with fried shallots. The flavourful prawn broth is boiled with prawn head, prawn shell, and pork ribs to give it that amazing robust flavour. One sip of the soup and you’ll be hooked! The soup has depth and hints of sweetness, with the chilli giving it a pleasant kick.

If you find it a tad too sweet, feel free to add in more of their chilli to balance out the flavours. As for the prawns, they are cooked well, allowing you to peel them with ease. Pair a spoonful of the noodles and soup, topped with some sliced pork and prawns for one delightful bite!
