Located at the entrance of 511 Bedok Food Centre, Nur Jannatun Naim has been running since 1990! Though their menu includes Sabsuka and Western food, the Beef Roti John with Cheese ($4.50) is one of the more popular items on the menu here.

The cheese gives the classic Roti John a new taste, making it as if you’re eating a higher-quality omelette sandwich! Though initially from its looks, it may seem as if it is just another typical homemade omelette sandwich. However, be prepared to be blown away at how perfectly made this sandwich is! A crispy yet soft bread with minced beef, cheese, egg and onions, what’s there not to love about this dish? With all the ingredients being seasoned perfectly, it’s a burst of flavours when you dig into this dish!

The addition of minced beef, cheese and onions also changes the entire sandwich eating experience! You get so many flavours coming from the different ingredients, which does not make you feel that you’re simply eating bread and egg. However, you might question, with the addition of melted cheese, does it make this dish too “jelak”  or too hearty? Well, fret not! Simply add their homemade chilli sauce to the bread to help with you that!

Other Roti John places typically use store-bought chilli sauces from brands such as Maggi or Lingham’s. However, at Nur Jannatun Naim, she makes her own chilli daily! The chilli is sweet and slightly spicy – almost similar to a popiah sweet dipping sauce. It complements the entire dish and balances out all the heavy flavours from the egg and cheese! However, if you have a low tolerance for spicy food, give it a try first before pouring the chilli all over the bread!

Each piece of bread is evenly coated with minced beef, egg and onions, so you will not end up with a piece of bread with only egg, or only minced beef! Additionally, the amount of onions in this roti john is just the right amount! Some places tend to go crazy on onions, making the experience of eating roti john less enjoyable, but not at Nur Jannatun Naim!
