For the past few days, residents of Queensway have seen that their local McDonald’s has been boarded up with signs that promise upgrades. While there has been no official statement by McDonald’s as of yet, there are signboards nearby explaining the sudden closure.

The McDonald’s location is within the Ridout Tea Garden. The garden, formerly known as the “Queenstown Japanese Garden,” serves as a leisure and recreation destination for residents. However, a fire in 1978 destroyed the majority of the iconic garden. In 1980, the Housing Development Board completely rebuilt a new garden. It has become the current Japanese-themed garden with a tea kiosk and a pavilion.
