31-Year-Old Wanton Mee Stall At AMK
Tucked away at Kebun Baru Food Centre, Hock Kee is a popular go-to spot for the residents living around the area. Even till now, the standard and taste have remained the same, giving a taste of nostalgia with every bite.
Those who grew up eating this will probably feel like a kid again each time they have this tasty dish. The queues usually form really quickly and only ceases close to their closing time. That’s definitely a good indication of how popular their food is.

The Wanton Noodles ($3.50) are springy and have none of that alkaline taste to them. It’s definitely something not all stalls have achieved making it a plus point. Additionally, they hold up the sauce well, ensuring you have a mouthful of flavour with each bite.
To elevate the dish, crispy pork lard is added to give a pleasant touch of depth and texture to the noodles. Unlike the typical roasted versions, Hock Kee’s char siew is more of the old-school style, which is rare to find nowadays.
The star of the dish, as it should be, is definitely the wantons. Hock Kee’s wantons are plump and have the perfect ratio of skin to filling. Each wanton is packed with flavour, with a kick of pepperiness to it. For only $3.50, there really isn’t much to complain about. It’s definitely still a dish worth trying for its price point!
