A stall with a long history, Dunman Road Char Siew Wanton Mee first started as Eng’s Wantan Noodle before the two owners decided to part ways. Despite the split, both partners have operated their own stalls within Dunman Food Centre for a period of time together.

One of them went to open the popular Eng’s Char Siew Wan Ton Mee which is now located at Tanjong Katong, while Dunman Road Char Siew Wanton Mee has continued to operate in its original unit to this day.

Incredibly Spicy And Springy Noodles!

Priced at $4 and $4.50, the $4 portion is served with a pretty decent portion of noodles, char siew, vegetables, and three wantons. One of the highlights of the dish is the amazing texture of the noodles, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Thicker than your usual wanton noodles, they are incredibly springy and are perfectly QQ, making each bite seriously addictive!

The sauce is light yet flavourful, ensuring the noodles don’t get too heavy. You might have noticed unlike other stalls, the chilli here is added on the side of the plate rather than typically being mixed with the noodles. Trust us, that’s for a very good reason.

Adding an incredible layer of heat with a touch of savouriness to the noodles, the spice lingers and builds, yet you can’t help but go back for more. Packing enough punch that will have you breaking out in a sweat, it is thankfully not too spicy that you feel the need to reach for a cup of water. For those who can’t really handle their spice, however, you might want to be careful with the amount of chilli mixed with your noodles.

For the char siew, some slices have a nice layer of fats to them but overall, they are pretty average and have nothing much to rave about. Well-seasoned, the wantons are nicely prepared and have a substantial amount of filling.

Here’s a secret hack for you, be sure to request some crispy pork lard when ordering! Unless you ask for it, the owner does not serve it with your noodles, making it almost like a secret off-the-menu item. Bigger and airier than most, they give the noodles a pleasant layer of crunch and umami.

Ending off with the soup, each sip is incredibly comforting and full of flavour, with a good kick of pepper to it.

Overall, Dunman Road Char Siew Wanton Mee truly stands out with its scrumptious noodles and spicy chilli, making it a must-try. Hurry down today!
