Coffee fans, you’re in for a treat. If you’re looking for a hearty breakfast with some unique coffee and toast, Coffee Break at Hong Lim Food Centre is just the spot to head to.
Unique Coffee And Toasts At Chinatown!
Located at Hong Lim Market and Food Centre, Coffee Break specialises in traditional coffees, teas and toasts and puts their very own twist on it. Run by a trio of siblings, they’re taking our usual breakfast menu to another level. Serves coffee with unique flavours ranging from Hazelnut all the way to Pumpkin Spice, you can also accompany your drinks with crispy toast filled with their myriad of different spreads.
Their Iced Passion Red Tea ($3.20) is strikingly red! Not too sweet, it’s the perfect refreshing drink to cool off in the hot weather. The passion fruit flavour is very strong, however, almost overpowering the red tea flavour.
We also got their Iced Hazelnut Cafe Latte ($4.50). It is very reminiscent of Starbucks, sweet and milky! The coffee flavour is just the right amount such that it does not mask the nutty hazelnut aroma. It is no wonder that this is one of their most popular menu items!
We cannot forget about their famous black sesame toast ($3.50) – black sesame paste and thick slabs of butter served between toasted wholemeal bread. Served hot and crispy, it is reminiscent of the traditional black sesame paste dessert (黑芝麻糊 – Hēi zhīma hú) – nutty and fragrant.
Sadly, it was a bit of a letdown as there was not enough black sesame paste and the butter overpowered the black sesame flavour. On the bright side, you can finish all four slices without feeling jelak.
