TL;DR

  • Muji Singapore’s Marina Square branch is closing – for good.
  • The announcement was made on 17 June on their Facebook page, much to netizens’ dismay.
  • Fret not, however – Muji’s other stores will still be opening as per normal in Phase 2!

If you’ve ever gone to Muji’s Marina Square outlet to buy furniture or pretty stationery, we have sad news for you: that branch is going to be closed for good. We’re disappointed – there’ll be no more walking around admiring the sleek displays when Phase 2 starts!

Muji announced on 17 June on both its Facebook and Instagram pages that it would be shuttering its Marina Square store for good. “We would like to thank all our customers for your support over the years,” they wrote.

For now, the nearest outlet to the closed store is the one in Raffles City Shopping Mall – so fret not, this closing-down doesn’t necessarily mean you now have to travel to the other end of the city to get your customisable notebooks, wooden shelves and Japanese snacks. It does mean you can’t just pop in when you next visit Marina Square, though, which is definitely a pity.

Other Stores to Open As Per Normal

Not to worry – the closure of this one branch doesn’t affect the opening of Muji’s other stores in Phase 2. There are still 10 Muji outlets left in Singapore. The Somerset, Plaza Singapura, Tampines 1 and JEM stalls will all still be open, for example. That’s definitely more than enough stores for you to visit to get all the minimalist furniture you need, or if your local branch runs out of those marshmallows you like.

So you have that to look forward to when Phase 2 begins tomorrow! (Aren’t you excited? We know we are!)

We’re sad about Muji’s Marina Square branch closing, but we’re hyped for Phase 2. Even if you can’t visit the Marina Square store, you’ll be able to actually leave the house to shop – that’s got to be worth something, right?

Remember to wear a mask and stay safe!
