The Banh Mi craze has certainly boomed in Singapore in the last few years. With its immense popularity, it’s no surprise to find new stalls popping up around neighbourhoods for residents to enjoy. Well, for those that don’t know, the popular Banh Mi Thit by Star Baguette at Geylang actually has another branch at Tampines as well. Sink your teeth into some of their incredible sandwiches like their Chicken, Beef, and Pork Banh Mi!
 Second Branch At Tampines
For fans of the Vietnamese baguette sandwich, the name Banh Mi Thit will probably ring a bell. Known to be one of the best spots in Singapore for banh mi, residents of Tampines no longer need to travel far for a taste of these glorious sandwiches. Similar to their main branch, their Tampines takeaway stall offers the classic four versions — beef, chicken, ham, and pork. Additionally, they also serve Pate Banh Mi as well as Egg Banh Mi, giving a total of six varieties to choose from.
Served with a crispy and warm baguette, all the meats are marinated in their respective sauces after they’re cooked. Additionally, all of the meats are drizzled with a black sauce for extra flavour. Each banh mi is priced at $6. Alternatively, you can also opt for the set menus ($7), which include a beverage of your choice.
Chicken Banh Mi
For the chicken banh mi, the meat is unfortunately a tad dry. However, the juiciness from the tomatoes does help add some moisture, making it still enjoyable overall. Additionally, the rest of the vegetables like the carrots and cucumber give a good contrast of crunchiness.
Flavorwise, there is a pretty prominent taste from the cilantro, with a delightful kick of spice from the sauce and chilli padi. Furthermore, the spice builds and lingers, making it incredibly addictive!
Beef Banh Mi
As for the Beef Banh Mi, the meat is tender and has a good kick of black pepper for some heat. With the addition of the chilli paid, it helps to pack a punch. Served with mayonnaise, it gives a good contrast of creaminess and tang for the perfect balance of flavours. Â On top of that, the onions add an extra layer of texture while helping to neutralize any overwhelming smell and taste the beef might have.
Pork Banh Mi
Lastly, we have the Pork Banh Mi, which is the least spicy of the three. Instead of your regular pork meat, the ham used tastes similar to your Vietnamese jambon. The ham gives the sandwich a pleasant bite with a slightly gelatinous texture.
Served with a tangy sauce, it balances the savouriness of the pork well while adding a touch of heat to it. Giving a delightful contrast of textures are the crunchy vegetables and creamy sauce for one amazing bite!
