Ang Mo Kio Fried Kway Teow has been operating at AMK Central for almost 40 years and continues to serve up scrumptious char kway teow to the residents around the area. Said to be one of AMK’s best hidden gems, don’t be surprised to see a long queue as lines start to form up as soon as they open! Compared to your typical char kway teow, AMK’s version has a much darker shade. Dark soy sauce is definitely one of the key ingredients in making a scrumptious char kway teow. With the use of dark soy sauce, it gives the version here a much sweeter note as compared to others in Singapore.

The Char Kway Teow ($3.50) comes stir-fried with a generous amount of ingredients- vegetables, fish cake, lup cheong, pork lard, and of course, not forgetting some fresh cockles. The noodles are well-cooked and each strand is coated perfectly with the dark sauce, giving it a robust sweet-savoury flavour. Additionally, the dish is elevated with the pork lard and the smoky wok hei, making every bite simply heavenly! With the addition of the exquisite lup cheong, it adds a beautiful layer of savouriness to the dish as well!

For those who love cockles, you will be pleased to know that the cockles here are seriously fresh and plump! Besides your typical taugeh (bean sprouts), the char kway teow served here also comes with green vegetables which might help it feel less sinful! Though this might not be the best char kway teow in Singapore, it certainly has the makings of being one of the top few! Definitely a must-try dish!
