Posted up by a netizen on Hawkers United – Dabao 2020, many netizens expressed that they had not eaten wah kueh for decades. While some argue the origins of wah kueh, a netizen explained that the steamed rice cake dish was once sold by street peddlers in Singapore. That was approximately 50 years ago. Well, is the steam rice cake dish similar to chwee kueh?

While chwee kueh is topped off with chai poh after it is steamed, wah kueh has toppings steamed together, and there is more variety, too! Head down to Ah Kong Wah Kueh, and indulge in different toppings include brown sauce, minced garlic, and chilli sauce. In terms of texture, it is firmer in comparison to chwee kueh. As the name suggested, this traditional dish is steamed in a bowl.

Thanks to the combination of different toppings, a bowl of wah kueh tastes really rich. A bowl of wah kueh is priced at $2.50. As the perfect breakfast treat, a netizen mentioned that this spot opens as early as 7:45 a.m., and the hawker will be around until it is sold out.
