As we are mostly staying at home, dine-in isn’t allowed. What’s the best way to take away food and beverages while reducing the usage of single-use items? Reusing them, of course. There is an old-school coffee shop located at Choa Chu Kang that still uses condensed milk tin can for their takeaway coffees. Head down to 85 Degrees for your daily dose of caffeine.
Condensed milk tin cans were highly used in the 1950s. It is a great method of reusing ‘tee kong’ (that’s another word for condensed milk tin can in Hokkien). Rediscovered by a Facebook user, Jeremiah Sean Ang, he had documented his experience on Facebook Group, Can Eat! Hawker Food. On the post, he had stated that the tin itself is piping hot, so it is important to hold it from the string attached instead.
With that said, you will need the coffee to cool off before taking the first sip. To get it served in a condensed milk tin can, you will need to request it.
