For a tasty and affordable breakfast, this is a spot you definitely can’t miss out on. Known as Lo Mai Gai, glutinous rice is a classic Dim Sum dish. Well, tucked away at Bendemeer Market lies Singapore Bao where they serve delicious glutinous rice for the perfect meal to start your mornings!
Singapore Bao Serves Delectable Glutinous Rice
With the name of the stall being Singapore Bao, you would think there would be Bao served here right? As a matter of fact, the stall used to serve them but has stopped making them due to the lack of manpower. Funny enough, they kept the “Singapore Bao” name and are now famous for their glutinous rice.
The Glutinous Rice ($2), is moist and sticky, without it being too greasy. Each grain of rice is coated with a flavourful sauce, with the sweetness and savouriness being perfectly balanced. The scrumptious rice is topped with stewed mushrooms and pieces of tender chicken. The mushrooms give an added texture and flavour to the rice while the chicken is sweet and savoury which complements the flavour of the rice.
Their homemade chilli sauce is simply to die for and a must-try with the glutinous rice. The sauce will take your tastebuds all around flavour town. Sweet, spicy, salty, with a hint of zest in every bite!

Besides their Glutinous Rice, Singapore Bao is also popular for its Siew Mai. Another staple in dim sum cuisine, the Siew Mai has chunks of juicy and tender meat. The Siew Mai is served at 70 cents each or $2 for 3 pieces. It is highly recommended to get it as it is a pairing with the glutinous rice.
