This Famous Stall At Bukit Timah Draws Huge Crowds For Their Satay Bee Hoon!

Ever wondered where Satay Bee Hoon originated from? Well, it is said to have been invented by Teochew immigrants in Singapore. Combining elements of Javanese and Chinese cooking, they mixed noodles with peanut gravy, and voila, the dish so well-loved by many was created. Now that you’re well-informed, it’s time to be well-fed. Tucked away at Bukit Timah Food Centre lies the famous Sin Chew Satay Bee Hoon where they draw snaking queues daily!

Sin Chew Satay Bee Hoon has been around since 1956, with Mr Tay’s father first selling their famed dish on the streets of Bukit Timah. Fun fact, their satay bee hoon was actually made by accident. The family previously sold fishball noodles but switched to satay bee hoon after a family member brought home satay and there were leftovers.

In order not to waste the food, they mixed the satay sauce with bee hoon and realised it tasted really good together. Fast forward to today, the stall continues to serve up scrumptious satay bee hoon and draws crowds from all over Singapore.

Sin Chew’s satay bee hoon ($4.50) is served with a generous portion of rice vermicelli that’s doused in luscious and fragrant satay sauce. Not only that, this dish is served with a ton of ingredients like tau pok, pork slices and cuttlefish.

Though It might look like a mess, the satay bee hoon is absolutely delicious. Every strand of the springy bee hoon is coated with creamy satay gravy, giving each bite an explosion of flavour. The gravy lies more on the sweet side and isn’t too rich, making it very palatable for most. Additionally, there’s also a pleasant amount of heat to it.

Although the pork slices aren’t the most tender, the tau pok does however soak up the gravy well, bursting with heavenly peanut gravy. The cuttlefish is also springy and tender, adding a delightfully chewy texture to the dish.
