1.  Ah Piao Kway Teow Soup

One tasty dish to look out for is definitely the Ah Piao Kway Teow Soup (from $4.50)! Enjoy the nostalgic taste of Malaysian kway teow soup with every sip! The kway teow is perfectly cooked, with the soup having a comforting and familiar taste. It’s actually similar to that of Bedok 85’s bak chor mee! For those who have tried it before, you might know what we mean! The soup has a robust taste with a slight sweetness to it, making every sip simply delightful!

Be sure not to skimp out on the ingredients as they are amazing as well! Both the fishball and meatball have a good bite and flavour, and we recommend “upgrading” to the Fish Maw Kway Teow Soup ($9), which comes with fresh clams and springy slices of fish maw that soak up the flavourful soup. Every bite is a burst of the delectable broth!

The dry version (from $5) comes highly recommended as you get the best of both worlds! The kway teow is drenched in a special chilli sauce that seriously packs a punch! Every strand is coated beautifully with dark sauce, giving the perfect balance of savoury, tang and spiciness in each bite! Spice lovers, this is a dish you definitely have to try! Completing this scrumptious dish are thin slices of char siew for added flavour and texture.

2. Penang Char Kway Teow

For the Penang Char Kway Teow ($5), it is less sweet than the Singapore version but is incredibly beguiling with wok hei imbued in every strand. The dish is prepared with a traditional recipe from a famous hawker in Malaysia and it certainly lives up to its name! The flavours are well-balanced and have the perfect amount of spice that makes every bite super shiok! Definitely a must-try dish!

3. Claypot Chicken Rice

If you’re in the mood for some rice, the Claypot Chicken Rice ($5.50) is definitely one to go for! Drizzled with dark soy sauce, sesame oil and a splash of Chinese hua tiao jiu, the dish is undeniably fragrant. The chicken is tender and marinated well, while slices of lup cheong and salted fish add an umami oomph, elevating the flavours of the rice when eaten together! Be sure to scrape the bottom of the claypot for the crisp rice! The highlight of the dish, the charred bits, adds a crispy texture with a slight bitterness that balances out the savouriness of the dish perfectly!

4. Klang Bak Kut Teh

Nothing beats a comforting bowl of hot soup and the Klang Bak Kut Teh ($6) definitely hits the spot! For Malaysian Bak Kut Teh, the soup is more herbal whereas Singapore’s version is more peppery. The soup here has a robust herbal taste with nuances of sweetness, making you want more with every sip! The pork belly is thinly sliced and cooked well, giving you a nice tender bite. The pork ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and have a burst of herbally goodness with every bite! Super shiok!

5. Chendol

Of course, no meal is complete without some dessert! The Chendol ($2.30) emulates the famous Penang Road Chendol that is known to draw snaking queues every day! The creamy coconut milk pairs perfectly with the gula melaka, giving an amazing sweetness to the dish. Have a bite of everything together and you’ll know why everyone loves it! The chendol here is less sweet as compared to others, making it a good option for those who are feeling a little more health-conscious! Definitely a refreshing treat to get for a hot day!
