Loong Fatt, one of Singapore’s Chinese traditional bakeries, is located at the corner of Balestier Road. It is hard to miss, with mini neon signage stationed next to the main door. Stepping inside, you will feel nostalgic. Nothing much has changed in terms of interior for the past few decades. Tiny white and green tiles on the walls, marbled tables, and wooden furniture – you get the idea!

But, we are not here to talk about the interior, are we? Loong Fatt is famous for its tau sar piah. There are two versions available right here, sweet tau sar piah, and salty tau sar piah. While the flavours are different, the texture of the pastry remains the same. Baked in the same oven that they have been using over the past few decades, these pastries are golden brown, and tend to be buttery and flaky.

These tau sar piah are filled with either sweet or savoury mung bean. Cut it into half, and the shine that the filling exudes is simply mesmerising. Freshly baked daily, one piece of tau sar piah is priced at $0.90 each. Do take note that there will always be a line, and sometimes the waiting time goes up to an hour. With that said, leave with a box of tau sar piah, okay?
