Starting out at the old Tanglin car park in the 1960s, Kwang Kee Teochew Fish Porridge remains popular to this day. Founded by Tan Cheng Khim, the stall is currently run by his son, Jason Tan. Jason decided to take over the business as he has been helping out his father since young and feels a great deal of satisfaction to see his regular customers. With its immense popularity, even local celebrities, ministers, and chefs have come to have a taste of Kwang Kee’s scrumptious food.

Jason prepares the soup daily at 9am and usually takes at least one and a half hours to achieve the flavourful broth. The fish stock is boiled with fresh fish and fish bones to give it that depth of flavour that customers can’t get enough of.

The Dual Fish Soup ($7) is served with sliced and fried fish, giving you the best of both worlds. Additionally, two types of fish are used, giving you a variety you don’t normally find in other fish soups. For the sliced fish, Spanish mackerel is used and you can taste the freshness with each bite. On top of that, the fish has a good bite and has no trace of the fishy taste.

For the fried fish, dory fish is used. The distinct dory taste instantly hits you, transporting you to a western stall for a brief moment. The fish is battered well and is not too thick, making it pleasantly light. With both fishes being equally good, all you fish soup lovers will definitely enjoy this dish.
