Aren’t we always excited for good food, especially when it is affordable?
This Stall In Toa Payoh Serves $1 Nasi Lemak
It feels comforting that there are many food centers scattered around Singapore with affordable meals. In every food center, there is bound to be really good food, and you can spot them through long queues. This time around, we are highlighting one of the longest-standing nasi lemak stalls in Singapore.
If you have yet to check out Kedai Makan Muhajirin, we are about to give you many reasons to do so. Run by a Mak Cik Zaliah, this stall has been around for 34 years. It offers a simple nasi lemak (coconut rice) dish topped with fried egg, ikan bilis, cucumber, and sambal for a good price of $1.
If you are looking for a complete meal with a fried fish, it will only cost $1.50. In addition to this, nasi lemak with chicken wings is priced at $2.20. At some point in 2018, the Mak Cik Zaliah who has been running the store wanted to cease operations, but the locals, and her husband, kept her going.
Many of her loyal customers told her that they will not be able to find nasi lemak for such a good price. Her husband added that they will be able to maintain their health by being productive every day. With that said, Mak Cik Zaliah churns out approximately 300 to 500 packets of nasi lemak everyday.
