Iconic Oyster Omelette Stall At Newton
Hup Kee Fried Oyster Omelette first operated at Glutton Square in Orchard Road from 1966 to 1978 before moving to its present location at Newton Food Centre in 1971. The owner, who is now in his 80s, is retired and the stall is currently run by his wife and son. Hup Kee is a hawker icon and still has constant queues of customers even to this day.
The oyster omelette is fried to a beautiful golden brown, with super crispy edges that everyone loves. Additionally, what’s great about the dish is that it’s not too oily and starchy, allowing you to enjoy the taste of the omelette. The soft starchy interior complements the crunchy exterior perfectly, making every bite a harmony of textures.

With the stall being so popular, do be prepared to wait for over an hour for your dish. However, trust us, it is definitely worth the wait. They only open from 6pm onwards so do head down early if you want to avoid the huge crowd. Additionally, they close at 12am making this a perfect supper spot.
