Hum Jin Pang’s story of their DIY approach first started when customers offered to help the previous stall owner fry the dough fritters when orders were piling up on busy days. This kind gesture from customers soon became a tradition in the stall and has carried on even till today. The daughter of the previous stall owner, Li Shu Hui, ensures that this tradition is honoured and continues to live on.

Hum Jin Pang offers two variations of their dough fritters, Red Bean and Five Spice Powder. What’s special is that you can even mix the two flavours. The Red Bean fritter is crispy, light and not greasy, which is a plus point considering it’s deep-fried. The inside reveals a sweet red bean filling that’s smooth and powdered sugar is added on top for extra sweetness.

Hum Jin Pang’s Five Spice fritter is well, seasoned with five-spice powder and then fried to a crispy golden brown. The hum jin peng is chewy and savoury, with hints of spice from the seasoning. A perfect treat for those who prefer the savoury version.
