Recently opened on Oct 1, Hakka Taste is currently run by the third-generation owner, Fico, who took over from his father, Mr Tan. Helping out at his own father’s hawker stall since he was ten, Mr Tan still continues to be involved with the stall to this day, ensuring the family’s legacy continues to live on.

All dishes are homemade and prepared daily, ensuring customers enjoy quality traditional Hakka food. Furthermore, all their cooks have been trained at their original stall in Batu Pahat for at least a month, ensuring authenticity and consistency at their Singapore stall.

If you’re looking for a hearty meal, the Premium Set is definitely a good option. This tasty set is served with a bowl of Bak Chor Mee with yong tau foo ingredients like tau kee, meatballs and tau pok.

The texture of the handmade noodles is absolutely sublime, with them having an amazing and satisfying chewiness and QQ bite. Topped with minced pork, it gives the noodles a good amount of flavour on its own, with a slight textural contrast.

However, if you like a little more oomph to it, you can also add some chilli and vinegar for additional layers of spice and sharpness. After adding them in, you will probably notice it tastes really familiar, which is why they named it Bak Chor Mee!

Moving on to the ingredients, the tau pok which is served with the noodles has a nice crispy exterior, with the fish paste giving it a slight creaminess and a good amount of flavour.

As for the tau kee and meatballs, they are served with the soup which is light and has a prominent fish paste flavour. Well-seasoned, the tau kee has the perfect ratio of skin to filling.

Meatball Soup ($4)

One of their must-try dishes, their Signature Meatball Soup is the perfect comfort dish for any rainy day. Served with ten delicious pork balls, you can instantly tell they are handmade from their unevenly round shapes.

Firm yet bouncy, the meatball, which is made with fresh pork daily is well-seasoned and has a hint of black pepper for a little kick. As for the soup, it is extremely light and clean tasting and is also less oily as compared to the soup from the Premium Set.

Another one of their signatures, the Tau Kee Platter is definitely a good sharing option. Crispy on the outside, it has a delightful flavour of the fish paste that shines through in each bite. It is however on the saltier side, making it best paired with some noodles or simply soaked in their soup.

Be sure to pair your ingredients with Hakka Taste’s unique chilli sauce. Unlike your typical yong tau food chiili sauce, the chilli here adds extra layers of umami, spice, and sharpness, elevating each bite. Definitely a must-have when you’re here!
