One of the only two Hokkien Mee stalls at Chomp Chomp, Ah Hock opens only in the evening, making them one of the popular dinner spots in the hawker centre. Don’t let the empty lines fool you as they will take your order and will send the food to your table. We arrived when they just opened and already had to wait for 30 minutes for our order.  Definitely a testament to their popularity!

In between the dry and wet versions, Ah Hock’s Hokkien Mee ($4) is cooked well, giving the noodles a pleasant texture. Bursting with immense flavour, you can instantly taste the prawn stock with each bite! It is sadly however lacking in wok hei, which would have helped elevate the dish with its smokiness. Adding a good amount of umami and spice is the chilli, although a more substantial amount would have been a lot better.

Despite being fresh, the texture of the squid and prawn honestly gave nothing much to rave about. As we got the smallest serving, the portion of ingredients especially the prawn (yes, just one) was pretty lacking, making it recommended to opt for the bigger portions ($5/$6) if you’re looking for more ingredients.
