For all you unagi lovers, the name UnaUna would probably ring a bell. Known for their quality and affordable hitsumabushi, they continue to draw crowds from all over the island. As summer in Japan is a time to celebrate Unagi Season, UnaUna at VivoCity will be launching Nagoya’s famous hitsumabushi set with three new ways to enjoy it as well! This brings a total of six ways to enjoy hitsumabushi!
New Premium Hitsumabushi At UnaUna VivoCity
One of Nagoya’s most famous dishes, the hitsumabushi is served with incredibly plump eels sitting on a bed of fluffy Japanese rice. This amazing dish has gained popularity over the years and is now found all over Japan and the rest of the world. UnaUna’s best-value unagi hitsumabushi set is served at $10.80 (small). Other sizes include M, L and XL(good for 3–4pax) at $16.80, $19.80, and $52.80 respectively.
The unagi is slathered with UnaUna’s in-house sweet and savoury tare and is grilled over hot charcoal. The result is a beautifully crispy exterior with soft and tender meat, boosting a fragrant smoky aroma that will have your mouth salivating upon sheer sight of it!
Traditionally, there are three steps to enjoy it:
- The first is to savour the ingredients as they are.
- The second is to add wasabi and green onions.
- Thirdly, add wasabi and green onions, and then soak the remaining portion with dashi.

The Premium Unagi Hitsumabushi Set comes in two sizes: M ($19.90) and L ($22.90). Do take note this set is exclusive only to UnaUna’s outlet at VivoCity! The set comes with new ingredients including seaweed wrap, rice, unagi, ikura and spicy sauce to elevate your hitsumabushi experience!
