For those who frequent Whampoa Makan Place, Yeo Cheng Huat, the second-generation owner of Hoover Fish Porridge sadly passed away on March 5. The stall is currently closed and will reopen on Friday, Mar 17.
Hoover Fish Porridge Owner Passes Away
Established in the 1960s, Mr Yeo’s father first started selling fish porridge outside Hoover Cinema at 360 Balestier Road. After taking over the stall he named it “Hoover Fish Porridge” and had been helming the business with his wife at Mandalay Road before moving to Whampoa in 1975. After Mr Yeo’s wife passed away in 2012, the stall was handed to his son, Yeo Kim Yeow.
It was shared by Mr Yeo’s grandson that Mr Yeo was experiencing difficulties in breathing and was sent to the hospital. After spending a day in the hospital, he sadly passed away due to complications of heart disease. Mr Yeo was previously diagnosed with lymphoma in November last year and had been battling with it until January this year when he was discharged from the hospital.
Mr Yeo’s grandson also has plans to join the family business, ensuring Mr Yeo’s legacy continues to live on.
