Hello, friends! Here’s a question, what are you going to do today? Are you planning to kick back and relax while working at home? Or, will you be out and about? Well, it is time to add another thing to your checklist – because you wouldn’t want to miss this out. For the first time since 1623, Jupiter and Saturn will be super close, and you will be able to see it right here in Singapore!
Jupiter & Saturn Will Be 0.1° Apart At 8:00 P.M.
The two biggest planets in the solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, will be super close today. Happening on the 21st December 2020, these planets will be only 0.1 degree apart from each other. With that said, it will look like a bright shining star at night. If you are wondering, the phenomenon, ‘great’ conjunction, can be spotted in Singapore, and it is best viewed at 8:00 p.m. today!
This shouldn’t be missed as it is the most observable ‘great’ conjunction since the year 1226. If that isn’t convincing enough, the next ‘great’ conjunction will be happening in 2080 (based on Earthsky), and that’s 60 more years down the road. For the best view, be sure to check it out at 8:00 p.m., as suggested by National University Singapore’s physics department, reported by Straits Times.
Making Christmas A Little More Magical This Year
Take a step outside, and have a look between sunset until 8:45 p.m.! As this phenomenon is happening near Christmas, it is also dubbed as the ‘Christmas Star’. To have the best view, be sure to use binoculars if you have any. To locate the ‘great’ conjunction, get ready some star maps in your phone. Yes, there are mobile apps for it!
