Kick-start your 2019 with SAW!

We are a little late but Singapore Art Week Is Happening Until 27th January 2019! Singapore Art Week, also known as SAW, is an event that brings together a range of quality art in January to kick-start the new year. This is only happening for nine days only from the 19th to 27th January 2019. As you can imagine, it is a very big event and it will be happening in different places in Singapore!

So, what are the things that you can look forward to? You can check out their art fairs, gallery openings, exhibitions, lifestyle events, public art walks, and take part in art discussions. We are going to break down some of the things you can do during Singapore Art Week so you wouldn’t miss the rest of it! Dress nicely, and bring your camera along. Let’s get this party started!

Singapore Art Week Is Happening Until 27th January 2019!

1. ARTWALK Little India 2019

Set in colourful Little India, ARTWALK Little India is presented by Singapore Tourism Board and LASALLE College of the Arts. For its fifth edition, their theme is Image and Sound of Fragrance. You will need to check out their wall murals, exhibitions, and performances! Performances include storytelling by Kamini Ramachandran, and Kathak guru Jyotika Joshi.

2. ART Week At SAM

You will be inspired by the though-provoking artworks of local artists at SAM. Not only that, but you will also have a sneak peek into the upcoming Singapore Biennale with film screenings, and live music sets by contemporary artists. There are so many programmes that you will need to check out! There will be an outdoor movie screening of It’s A Great, Great World happening on the 25th January too!

3. Art After Dark

Love visual art and live music? Head to Art After Dark, a flagship night-time open house event by Gillman Barracks. This year, you can look forward to new exhibitions and exciting programmes by their resident galleries and the NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore. Buy something amazing from their pop-up store or grab something to munch at one of their many eateries too!

4. Light to Night Festival 2019: Traces and Echoes

For the second week of Light to Night Festival 2019: Traces and Echoes, you will be amazed by their performances of clarinet quintet, percussion ensemble, and many more by the Home of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Also, there are free tours to explore the history of the Victoria Theatre & Victoria Concert Hall! Feeling hungry? Head to The Empress Lawn and Connaught Drive to feast at the food stalls.

5. State of Motion 2019: A Fear of Monsters

If you love Asian horror, you will need to check this out! State Of Motion 2019: A Fear Of Monsters investigates the histories and trajectories of Asian horror and focuses on the monsters at the intersections of art, popular culture, and cinema! There are many talks and programmes for you to go! Personally, we are excited about Of Fear and Longing: Art Exhibition Tours happening on the 25th January 2019 onward. Tour tickets are required.

6. Home(work)

Looking for some workshops to participate in? Look no further! Home(work) is a community-centric, interactive installation looking at local issues of domesticity and labour through the mediums of mark-making, sculpture, and drawing. Some of the workshops that you will need to check out include Linocut Printing Workshop, Silkscreen Tote-making Workshop, and Ceramic Cup-building Workshop! Price starts at SGD 55.

7. Memories of Singapore River

Love films and documentaries? Check out Memories of Singapore River, a documentary film about Singapore River’s history. This film is presented with English and Mandarin subtitles. There will be hourly screenings at Asian Civilisations Museum Screenings and Singapore River Cruise Screenings. We are opting for Singapore River Cruise Screenings for the full experience. Tickets are required.
