1. The Kin’s – Burnt Cheesecake

This unsuspecting cafe is located within a condo in Pasir Panjang, but don’t belittle it! They serve all-day brunch and good coffee – but their secret is their Burnt Cheesecake ($7.50). This one-of-a-kind cheesecake has a gooey melted cheese centre, while the outside resembles a charred cheesecake. It is described as a hybrid of a baked cheesecake and no-bake cheesecake and is rich and creamy. Could this be your new favourite brunch spot?

3. No Milk – Teochew Fish Soup

When you think of bar food, fish soup doesn’t usually come to mind. One might be surprised to see fish soup on the menu when visiting this rooftop bar. Despite its unconventional setting, the young owners of No Milk do fish soup right. The name hints that no milk is used to add sweetness to the broth, instead boiling the fish bones for long hours to achieve the natural sweetness of the fish. Besides fish soup, they also serve other hawker favourites like Spicy Fragrant Handmade Egg Noodles, along with Western cuisine.

4. Chuan Hung The Noodle Place – Sichuan Rice Noodles

The highlight of Chuan Hung are their Sichuan Mianyang rice noodles. You can choose from 3 broths: clear, red and Sichuan vine-pepper soup. Their rice noodles, besides their slightly firmer texture, are also more resistant to getting soggy. Meaning, you can enjoy your bowl of noodles for a longer time! They also have a variety of sides to order with your noodles, and we’ve heard that their Fried Crispy Pig Intestines are a must-try!

5. Ho Fook Hei – Cantonese Rose Wine Soy Sauce Chicken

A lot of care goes into producing a plate of Ho Fook Hei’s Specialty Rose Wine Soy Sauce Chicken. It is brined overnight so that the chicken is tender and the flavours will be able to permeate into the meat. It is then braised for 24 hours in their home-aged soy sauce and various herbs and spices. Lastly, right before serving, they pour in their imported rose wine, letting the alcohol evaporate and leaving behind the rose fragrance.

6. BurgerLabo – A5 Wagyu & Black Pork Burgers

The hamburger may have been born from fast food chains, but the future of hamburgers might just be gourmet. Gourmet burgers’ appeal with the masses may have to do with less to no preservatives, as well as better overall quality of the ingredients. BurgerLabo’s Basic Burger patty features a 170g patty that is a mix of grass-fed black Angus beef neck, Aomori Gyu ribeye, Toriyama Umami Wagyu A4 tenderloin and Sendai Wagyu A5 brisket. All this beef to give the perfect balance of flavours and textures!

7. Gram Pancakes & Cafe – Fluffy Souffle Pancakes

Gram Pancakes & Cafe is a popular cafe from Osaka, Japan that are famous for their fluffy souffle pancakes. Their Premium Pancakes are known for being thicker than a normal pancake, but maintains a light airy texture. It is less dense than a typical pancake and more of a mousse-y texture. Their opening at Vivocity raked up a 4 hour long queue, but hopefully the crowd would have died down by July!

8. % Arabica Coffee

% Arabica is the latest Japanese cafe that has set up shop in Singapore. Their coffee is very popular, earning them long queues at their outlet in Hong Kong. They use beans from their own coffee farms in Hawaii, as well as from other parts of the globe. After selecting your beans, they will then roast them on the spot for you, setting the apart from other coffee shops. Their coffee is definitely worth the wait!

Looking for quality Western food? You’ve come to just the place! Just a short walk from Tai Seng MRT, Whale Lala will give you a bang for your buck. A few must-tries are the Mushroom Aglio Olio and their Louisiana Grilled Chicken Rice. For vegetarians, they also have non-meat options, like Cold Soba with (meatless) Chicken Katsu.
