Google To Map All 114 Hawker Centres in S’pore By Early 2020

Here's To More Convenience and Ease

Without a doubt, we all love the hawker scenes in Singapore. It’s the go-to place for lunch break as well as meals without ever harming our wallets. But there’s always this difficulty of not knowing what exact stores are operating within a hawker centre. Of course, you can always spot the best stall with the snaking queue. But when you’re on lunch break, queuing up just isn’t the solution. So, noticing this slight inconvenience, Google is here to save the day by mapping the location of the hawker centres in Singapore. Yay to technological advancement!

Hawker Centres in S’pore Will Be on Google Maps by 2020

So, in brief, Google will be mapping the interior of all 114 hawker centres in Singapore, with each hawker stall having their own location pin. Utilising the Street View Trekker, the system will capture images of each hawker stall and providing us information regarding the stalls.

The information of the stalls such as their name, stall number and photos can be accessed through an online search on the Google app. This is seriously gonna be so convenient. Best part of it is definitely not needing to wander aimlessly around the hawker centres anymore.

In addition, this is a joint collaboration between Google, the National Heritage Board (NHB), the National Environment Agency (NEA), and the Federation of Merchants’ Associations, Singapore (FMAS) for all our convenience.

In case you’re curious about the progress of this project, it’s already ongoing. Currently,  it will begin with Chinatown Market, Geylang Serai Market, Tekka Market, Maxwell Food Centre, and Golden Mile Food Centre.

Aside from saving us the trouble of aimless wandering, this initiative will also aid the hawkers. This is because the stalls will now receive more online presence and exposure among customers. Win-win, right?

So, as there are a total of 114 hawker centres in S’pore to map, it will definitely take some time. But worry not, as word is out there that we’ll enjoy this convenience by early 2020.
